The difference between a thrift store and a vintage store?
To begin, let's look at the definitions found in the Robert dictionary:
Thrift store : Old clothes, used linen.
Vintage : Refers to clothing and fashion accessories that date from a relatively old era.
Now, if I had to define the meaning of thrift store and vintage shop .
The two have things in common, but it is above all their differences that we will highlight today.
The big differentiating point in my opinion is in the selection of clothes.
In a thrift store , there are few or no selected clothes.
We will have all types, all styles from vintage 70s to today.
The stock often comes from clothing donations and most of the time we are at affordable prices with sales volume.
In what I consider to be thrift stores, you can find Emmaus or Ding Fring and even the kilo shops... Cheap thrift stores where most of the prices are under €20.
On the contrary, the differentiating point between a vintage store and a thrift store is the selection of pieces.
Often sorted, rummaged and hand-selected. Each boutique devotes time to offering the best of vintage for sale.
This will generally result in higher prices in stores than in thrift stores, a universe/decoration specific to the brand and, above all, a much higher quality selection.
But so where does La Bonne Tenue position itself?
We position ourselves as a premium vintage online store (soon also in physical stores), specializing in sportswear and vintage American sweatshirts.
But it goes even further with a premium selection of the best brands of the moment like cp compagnie, The North Face, Stone Island and so on.
Each piece is sorted and selected by hand to keep only the best.
At La Bonne Tenue we find the best of vintage but not only :)
Coming soon an article on the different supply methods and bales of vintage sweatshirts.
